Japan Ice Hockey Federation (JIHF) Asia Support Program

Malaysia Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF), together with Japan Ice Hockey Federation (JIHF) and International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) hosted the JIHF Asia Support Program on Nov 26 -29 at Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium (MYNISS), in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. About 80 participants from Malaysia, male and female with age ranging from 4 to 42 years old have registered for this program.

Participants experienced the golden chance to learn from JIHF ice hockey professionals which are Mr. Takeshi Yamanaka, Japan’s national women team head coach, Mr. Kei Tonosaki, Japan’s national team coach, Mr. Shoya Suzuki, Japan’s national team goalkeeper coach, Ms. Ami Nakamura, former Japan’s national player and two times Olympians, and Mr. Yutaka Kobayashi, JIHF International Committee. They were in Malaysia to share their ice hockey knowledge and to train Malaysian ice hockey players, goaltenders and coaches in the four days program that includes on-ice training and theory classes.

An initiative by Japan’s former national goaltender, Shoichi Tomita who played in the 1960 Olympics and the IIHF World Championship, this annual program which were established in 2017 is a joined effort by IIHF and JIHF. This is an initial drive to raise the skill level of ice hockey players of Asia countries that are still fresh in the ice hockey sports.
